I. GENERAL INFORMATION

THE CORE OS
 116 MB ISO.
 20.4 MB RAM (39.4 MB RAM with default services and 1 Restart).
 No key, no activation necessary— it’s all integrated.
 Internet Explorer, Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, Windows Media Player 6.4, Disk Defragmenter, Notepad, Calculator, Paint all included.

CUSTOMIZE LUX
 Optionally add Hotfixes and Drivers to the ISO via nLite before you burn the installation CD.
 Learn how to optionally tweak Windows XP via nLite.
 Download “Program Modules” to add to your IS O — your favorite “popular programs” such as Macromedia Flash Player, Mozilla Firefox , and 7-zip. These programs, once added to the ISO and burned to the installation CD, will automatically install (without your input) during the regular Windows XP installation.

THIS GUIDE
 This guide will be an interactive, integrated way to obtain all the necessary files and instructions to install LUX as is or to customize it.
 Screenshots are provided occasionally to augment the written instructions.

V. INSTALLING LUX “ AS IS ”

1. Unzip LUX.7z using 7-Zip.
2. Use PowerISO or your favorite burning program to burn LUX.iso to a CDR.
3. Restart your computer with your LUX CDR in the CD ROM drive.
4. When prompted, boot from CD.
5. Choose a disk drive to format and install LUX.
6. That’s it. Wait 10-15 minutes as your new operating system is installed.

VI. CUSTOMIZING LUX

1. Unzip LUX.7z using 7-Zip.
2. Use PowerISO open LUX.iso.
3. Create a folder on your desktop called “EXTRACT ”
4. Use the Extract toolbar button to extract the files contained in LUX.iso to the folder on y o u r d esk to p called “EXTRACT ”.
5. Open nLite, select your language, and hit the Browse button and locate the folder on your desktop called “EXTRACT ”.
6. Once the details about LUX appear, click the Next button.
7. The Presets screen loads nex t. Don’t load any presets, click the Next button .
8. The Task Selection screen loads next. Select the following buttons:
“Unattended Setup,” “Options,” “Tweaks” & “Create a Bootable ISO.”
9. The Unattended Setup screen loads next. Feel free to change the settings in the following tabs: “Administrator,” “Network ID” & “Regional.”
10. The Options screen loads next. Most of these settings should be preset to something reasonable, but feel free to change them.
11. The Tweaks screen loads next. These settings are all personal preference.
The default selections are my preferences.
12. The Processing screen loads next. Click the Yes button to start processing.
Select High priority to increase speed.
13. The Create a Bootable ISO screen loads next. Replace “Winlite” with a name of your own for the custom ISO. Now, to finish, click the Make ISO button.
Name your customized .iso file and save it to your Desktop.
14. Click the Next button then the Finish button.

VII. ADD PROGRAM MODULES DIRECTIONS:
1. Download the programs you would like to add to your LUX .ISO keeping in mind that you have approximately 585 MB of space remaining on your CDR.
2. After you download a program you must rename it to the name I have provided below the download link. For instance Firefox ’s installation file is “Firefox S etup 1.5.0.7.ex e” Once the file finishes downloading, you MUST rename it to firefox.exe
3. After renaming the file, open your LUX ISO using PowerISO and copy and paste the file in to the “MODS ” fo ld er.
4. When you have finished adding all the programs you want on your CDR be sure to SAVE the modified ISO before you burn your CDR.

Note: If you hae extra space on your IS O after adding the “supported ” program modules, feel free to add your documents or favorite “unsupported ” program setup files to your ISO for you to manually install from your LUX installation CD, e.g. Opera,
WinDVD, Nero, etc. Open LUX.iso with PowerISO and create new folders (name them whatever you want) and copy and paste your files. Remember, SAVE before burning.
